Xander Schauffele culminó un torneo de ensueño con un domingo de nervios de acero para ganar su primer major y meterse en la elite del golf profesional.
Xander ganó “wire to wire” el PGA Championship que se jugó en el Valhalla Golf Club con un score récord para el campeonato de -21.
El drama llegó hasta el ultimo putt pues su drive fue a parar al borde del bunker del lado izquierdo del fairway, imposibilitando que se fuera en dos al green del hoyo más fácil del campo. Más adelante, “El Científico” Bryson DeChambeau lo había empatado con -20 tras meter un dramático putt que emocionó a todos, lo que auguraba un posible playoff.
Pero Xander tenía otros planes, y tras un gran chip que lo dejó a unos 8 pies de la bandera, metió el putt final para coronarse campeón del evento que organiza el PGA of America, y así levantar el “Wannamaker Trophy”
